What’s on your nails? Ombre Black and Red

In the wintertime, I often start to get a little stir crazy.  That’s when I start to do more craft projects, coloring/drawing, and get into doing more nail art.  Hey, why not?  It’s not like I’m going to go run around in the single digit temps outside!  Here’s my latest mani – a red to black ombre done with Zoya Janele (red), Revlon Vixen (dark blood red), and Zoya Willa (black).  I used a damp sponge wedge to do the sponge paint method and topped it off with a coat of Poshè for a great 3-free home mani that looks pretty cool!

What’s on your nails? Covergirl Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail Gloss in Violet Flicker

Every now and then, my hubby will bring home a nail polish for me, especially if he sees a cool one on sale.  It’s incredibly sweet!  Yesterday, he grabbed Covergirl Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail Gloss in Violet Flicker – which after I did some googling, turns out to have been from their Hunger Games Catching Fire Capitol Collection.  Well, of course, I gave him a big ol’ smooch and major husband kudos.

Violet Flicker is a violet-berry polish with a glass fleck shimmer of magenta and blue.  It’s extremely unique to anything I have in my collection.  I absolutely love the blue reflects!  It’s pretty sheer with one coat.  Two coats will do, but three thin coats turned out to be absolutely stunning.  I topped it with Poshè fast dry top coat and it just glistens.

I absolutely think they are trying to dupe the Chanel nail polish bottles here.  Fine with me!

The formula of this nail polish is excellent.  I found it easy to apply without flooding my cuticles and it levels itself out nicely.  The brush is shorter and wider than I normally like, but I have tiny nails and go for tiny brushes (think Essie and Zoya).  The wide cap is a little awkward to use, but I managed ok.  Since I’m just ok day 2 of wear, we’ll consider this a first impression.  🙂

This polish formula is 5-free, which I totally appreciate!  I’m trying to at least stick with 3-free because of fumes and migraines, etc.  This polish is a little stinkier than my Zoya, but it’s pretty enough to open a window.  🙂

These polishes are marked down to around $2.50 at Target!

Zoya 4YOU PROMOTION – 4 Free Bottles of Polish for $15 Shipping

I have done Zoya’s “free” nail polish with promotional shipping fee for the last 3 years.  Those years had 3 bottles for $12 shipping, which was a great deal; however, the shipping always took sooooooooo long!  This year, Zoya upped the ante with 4 free bottles of nail polish for $15 shipping, which brings your total to $3.75 a bottle.  That’s really great for a 5-free nail polish!

Imagine my surprise when my order arrived before the promo even ended?!

ZOMG.  *tears open*

*happy tears*  Oh my STARS, it’s a thing of beauty!  Colors are Sansa (hello, Game of Thrones fans!), Giada, Janel, and Willa.

So, then I was tipped off by a friend that this code works multiple times and ordered 4 more shades…meep!!!

This promo ends tomorrow, so if you want in on it, get cracking!

From squoval to oval nails

Or are they round nails?  Oh my, this is going to take a while to get the hang of.  Back in 1993 when I worked in a department store, my friend at the Lancome counter said, “girl, you’re filing your nails wrong!” and showed me square nails.  I basically haven’t changed them since then.  Well, I just chopped 14 inches off my hair…why not get even crazier?! (Who am I kidding, nobody will notice this but me.)

(On the left is Zoya Daul, on the right is Sinful Colors Bleeding Heart.)

This was REALLY hard to do after not doing it in 20 something years.  Also, I have arthritis and my fingers are crooked.  Now that I think about it, not bad, eh? 😉  I think this will be great when they grow a bit more.  Better keep up those supplements!

What’s on your nails? – Essie Carry On

Tonight is our town’s local goth-industrial dance night!  I usually wear brights or reds in the summer, but for tonight, I felt like getting my goth on, so I got out this great black-plum-red color, Essie’s “Carry On.” I think this may still be in stores, but I bought it last fall.  It is definitely still sold on their website and many other sites.  This is reminiscent of Chanel’s Vamp/Rouge Noir, only more on the plum side than the burgundy side of black.  I hate to hear they re-released Rouge Noir last year and I wasn’t paying attention, because they now go for $150.00 on eBay.  Thanks, Uma Thurmond.

What’s on your nails?

Ok, so I did a quick and sloppy job, but I got it done, finally – a quickie mani pedi with Sinful Colors “Bleeding Heart,” my holy grail red for at least 10 years.  I believe this is my 3rd bottle.  I use thinners so I can use bottles up, too!

What’s on your nails?  OPI Big Apple Red

So, my holy grail red nail polish has always been Sinful Colors “Bleeding Heart,” a deep, nearly blood red that’s opaque in 2 coats and looks amazing on fair, cool toned skin.  However, for spring and summer, I found myself wanting a much brighter, true “pinup” classic red to wear on my tips and toes.  Enter OPI “Big Apple Red.”

This is the polish after 2 coats, topped with Poshe fast drying top coat.  As you can see, it’s not 100% opaque, as you get a little bit of VNL (visible nail line) through it, though this would be solved with a third coat.  I just don’t mind having a little VNL and love the color regardless.  My main complaint is one that I have with all OPI polishes, and that’s the extra large brush!  I have really small hands and nails, so I like the thin brushes like you get with Zoya and Essie.  As you see here, the wide brush made it difficult not to get polish on my nail folds in the sides.  I may have to look for a dupe of this in a brand with a brush I can stand.  Aside from that, if you know you like OPI’s brushes, you may really love this bright, classic, true red!

What’s on your nails? Essie For The Twill Of It

So, I’ve been under the weather, so no posts in a couple of days, but last night I managed a home mani-pedi!  I used Nailtiques #2, Essie’s For The Twill Of It, and topped it with Poshe fast drying top coat.  This nail polish is an amazing multi-chrome with hints of teal, magenta, and silver-brown.  In some lights, it appears gunmetal.  It came out 2 years ago, but if you can’t find it, supposedly Peace & Love & OPI by OPI is nearly exactly the same.

I really wish I could capture all the colors in this amazing polish better!

What’s on your nails? Zoya Midori

Oh my GAWD, I love this color, you guys.  It’s an apple green with yellow tones and lots of gold shimmer.  It’s perfect for this late spring/early summer weather we’re having.  I’ve got it on my toes and I’m going to rock my birthday sandals with it this week, too!
