Makeup of the Day – Purples with MAC and Urban Decay

I had a great doctor’s appointment today (super productive!) and it’s finally NOT FREEZING around here and looking like spring again!  I decided to do some fun makeup in my favorite color – purple!

BREAKDOWN:

FACE:  NYX HD Concealer in Green around the nose, MAC Studio Fix Fluid in NW10, MAC Studio Finish Concealer in Light Yellow under eyes (from Light palette), NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Chantilly over the yellow color corrector, MAC Blot Powder in Light through the center of the face, Urban Decay Afterglow Blush in Bittersweet, Notoriously Morbid highlighter in Osteomancy on cheekbones 

EYES:  Bobbi Brown Cream Eyeshadow in Bone as a base, MAC Beautiful Iris on inner portion of lid, Stars n Rockets on outer 2/3 of lid, Creme de Violet in crease and on lower lash line, Vanilla for highlight (you guys, I have been trying to pan this for months! It’s everlasting!), Physicians Formula Eye Booster Pen black, Covergirl Clump Crusher mascara, NYX Micro Brow Pencil Black

LIPS:  NYX lip pencil Deep Purple and MAC Amplified Cream lipstick in Up The Amp

Makeup of the day – MAC Pink Nouveau Lipstick

I got this great MAC satin lipstick in Pink Nouveau in a blog sale and I think I’m in love!  MAC Pink Nouveau is a very cool toned blue based pink lipstick in a satin formula.  I decided to deepen it up a bit with NYX Edge Pink lip liner, which borders on being fuscia.  

  
I think it looks great with Tarte Dollface blush, which is also a very cool toned pink!

  
The shadows I’m wearing are MAC Vanilla on the brow bone, Copperplate as my crease transition shade, and Howzat as the lid and outer V shade and smudged along the lower lash line.

  
I put up my hair to show off the jewelry my friend made me ❤

Makeup of the day – Daytime smoky eye with MAC

So, from time to time, I find myself pining for the Urban Decay Smokey palette.  I always talk myself out of it, because I HAVE THOSE COLORS (repeat to self 500 times).  I’m a sucker for packaging and I have the other 3 Naked palettes and will probably keep pining, though…even with my psychology degree, I’m a marketer’s dream come true!  Regardless, here’s a smoky look today I put together with some MAC shadows – enjoy!

  
  
  
Eye look was done with Bobbi Brown Cream Eyeshadow in Bone as a base, then I used MAC Copperplate eyeshadow as a transition shade in the crease and MAC Howzat shadow (LE, but substitute any deep frosty grey you like) in the crease below the transition shade and all over the lid.  I used MAC Electra eyeshadow to highlight the center of the lid. I blended Blanc Type on the brow bone as a highlight and used Howzat below the eye with a pencil brush.  I then used MAC Nehru on a 266 angled eyeliner brush for a soft smoky eyeliner…no liquid liner today!

You can take this look even smokier with black or grey liner on the waterline, but spring allergies dictate that I’m not doing this today – LOL! 

Blush is NYX Ombre Blush in Mauve Me and Lipstick is Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick in Lovecraft.

Man, I should know that my lips are too dry in February for a liquid to matte lip color…but LOOK at this shade!  I mean really!  My lips are going to pay later and I’ll be slathering on the NUXE Réve de Miel lip balm to try and make up for it.  But….MATTE GOODNESS.

Makeup of the Day – Urban Decay Vice 4 Look

I’ve been playing with the UD Vice 4 palette and today I tried a shade I had yet to wear, but have totally been intrigued by because of the name – 1985!  This is a great fuscia shimmer shadow that looks amazing with Beatdown, the shade I have above it in the crease.  I wore MAC Vellum as the highlight, a funky white duochrome that reflects blue and pink.

The lipstick is Maybelline Creamy Matte in Vibrant Violet.  Boy, they ain’t kidding about vibrant!

So, there’s my “cabin fever makeup” as we are still somewhat snowed in here in the Southeastern US.  I hope you enjoyed it!

Makeup of the Day – Everything amazing gets discontinued

So, today I felt a little opalescent.  I got out my favorite moonstone jewelry and I used my MAC Vellum eyeshadow, which I’ve been hanging onto forever, because it’s been discontinued a long time.  It’s a gorgeous frosty white multichrome that flashes blue-purple-pink in the light when you move.  I’m wearing it today as a brow bone highlight.


It’s hard to see the reflections of color here, but if you move in the light…


Last night I was bummed out to read that I missed a re promote of this color that was limited edition – I didn’t even hear about it!  So, I started looking for dupes.  Apparently, Milani made a shadow that was similar called Moonlight – discontinued, nowhere to be found.  NYX made a single in the old square packaging called Opal that’s a pretty close dupe for Vellum – oh hey, they still have these on Amazon!  I grabbed one with my Prime membership, because yeah…this will also go the way of the dodo.  Makeup companies…WHY YOU DO DIS?!?  Stop taking away my preciouses.

The other product of amazing I have on today is Notoriously Morbid’s loose mineral highlighting powder on my cheekbones (or complete lack thereof) in “Osteomancy.”  Ok, seriously?  How cool is that name?  I got a sample of this that is so generous I won’t have to buy a container for a while, but when I run out?  I totally will!  This powder highlighter is a super fine shimmery white.  It’s so super ethereal and gorgeous.  And not subtle.  Heh!

I tried and tried to get the green in MAC “Shade” Fluidline to really show up in my pictures today, but it’s just really overcast!


Blurry in the bathroom…


Light from the front door is blown out on the chest, shaded on the face…better luck tomorrow for a sunny day, I hope!

A care package from a friend – with a little Sleek, a little NYX, and a whole lotta MAC!

I’m blessed to have a rich online life and a lot of online friends.  A lot of them are merely acquaintances; however, I have a few friends that I’ve had for over 10 years that I consider to be real, close, lifetime friends.  One of them was talking to me this week about a shadow palette I had bought from Sleek makeUP and wanted to try some for herself.  She bought the Sleek i-Divine Eyeshadow Palette in Bad Girl from Amazon, but unfortunately she ended up allergic to it, so she said, “Hey, I’ll send this to you and you can use it and blog about it.  I’ll send you some other things too, like this green NYX Wicked lippie.”  She mentioned some metallic MAC shadows, but I didn’t expect a gigantic box to arrive at my doorstep a few days later.  Imagine my surprise…

The only casualty of the cross-country trip was this shadow from the Maleficent collection, My Dark Magic – not a problem, because I’m going to put it in a container and use it as a loose pigment and recycle the container at Back 2 MAC for a lipstick, as you do! 🙂
